In this film, Riddick is shown as a prisoner being escorted by Johns. When asked about his eyes, Riddick says to Jack that he bribed the prison doctor to give him a pair of night-vision eyes. Although in The Chronicles of Riddick , it is said that Riddick comes from an extinct royal race called Furyans and his abilities are inherited by birth. However, this reason was never mentioned in Pitch Black , which makes Riddick's exact origin unaddressed.

It isn't guaranteed whether it will be clarified in latter sequels. Claudia Black later starred in the science fiction series Stargate SG-1 which is a spin-off of the film Stargate , which took place on a desert planet. Claudia Black played recurring character Vala Mal Doran, whom later became a regular cast member in the tenth season. This came out on the same day as boiler room another film with vin diesel in it. Spoilers The trivia items below may give away important plot points.

The original ending had Riddick being killed by one of the creatures, instead of Carolyn. This was changed to allow possible sequels, since Universal didn't believe the Carolyn character would be as popular as the Riddick character. The alien creatures, designed by Patrick Tatopoulos , have three phases of evolution: Larval: small, worm-like, harmless, and bioluminescent Fry, Imam and Jack meet them in the cave. Mid level: small, bat-like, and fly in flocks to hunt they kill Shazza during the eclipse.

Adult: large, gray, possessing wide narrow heads, who can easily kill a human alone, as well as their own kind for food they kill Johns, Paris, Fry, and others.

Originally, Riddick was to die at the end. But during production Vin Diesel and the cast and crew had found Riddick an interesting character, and Vin Diesel himself admitted in an interview that Riddick was a character you'd go places with.

The ending was changed so Fry dies instead of Riddick, so David Twohy could leave it open for a sequel, which eventually became The Chronicles of Riddick It was rumored that there would be a television movie and a possible series that would be produced on the SciFi channel which would air shortly after the release of The Chronicles of Riddick The series would have covered the events between Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick and Jack would be the main character and it would depict Jack becoming Kyra.

In the Robert A. Heinlein novel "Tunnel in the Sky" the characters are marooned on a planet where they are attacked by creatures that are only a threat on a once a year basis. It also includes a girl, Jacqueline, posing as a guy, Jack. According to Pitch Black's official web, the main characters have different ages due to the hibernation during the space travel: -Fry paper age, 41; actual age after cryo-deduction, To determine the rotation time of the planets of the solar system where Fry and the rest crashed, they look at a movable model in a room at the settlement.

In the end with riddick saying he died on the planet. Might be to the fact he showed compassion to others, which the old Riddick would never have done. Damn you! Gruesome isn't he? Fumbles at your head like a freshman pulling on a panty girdle. To answer your question, it was most certainly the 'raptor' that killed fry. Freeze frame again. It's holding her like you would grasp a bottle. I know some people that know some people that robbed some people.

Until I read this thread, I had always thought Riddick had stabbed her in the back so the creatures would smell her blood and take her away instead. It brought more interesting questions as to Riddick's character. Bang Bang. She died for him. She saved him, and she brought him back to humanity. It really did feel like a Shakespearean tragedy in that light -- the kind of scene you just don't see in science fiction very often. I am amazed that anyone can watch the film and so wholly misunderstand the action, the subtext, and the conclusion Granted, perhaps a child might not understand what Riddick meant and thus know he hadn't killed her but for an adult to miss it is almost incomprehensible.

Riddick : [Fry is fighting with Riddick, who wants to leave Jack and Imam behind] Would die for them? Fry : I would try for them! Riddick : You didn't answer me. Fry : Yes, Riddick. I would. I would die for them. Riddick : [pulling off goggles] How interesting. Johns : He just escaped from a maximum security prison. Fry : Should he just stay locked up forever? Johns : That would be my choice.

Fry : Is he really that dangerous? Johns : Only around humans. Carolyn Fry : How much do you weigh, Johns? William J. Johns : What's it matter, Carolyn? Carolyn Fry : How much? Johns : Around 79 kilos, to be exact.

In some strange way tho. Anyway, there is many illogical things, so this couldnt be an exception. Member since October This is one of my favorite movies. Watching it now, but I saw this many times.

Fry and Riddick has a common bond, remember in the beginning of the movie, when Fry was going to jettisen all the cargo, and passengers to save her own life, that was the common bond, "always looking after for number one, himself". Riddick:"stronge survival instinct, I like that in a woman" Remember Riddick was just going to leave everyone, when he got to the skift first, then Fry showed up, and was just going to leave with Riddick, then she started to get a conscience, now that she is the captain, and has formed a bond with the passengers.

Remember he also had second thoughs saving Jack, when she was being attacked, and she was calling Riddick to save her, after a brief moment, he saved her. I'm guessing it was because she wanted to be just like him, shaving her head and all. Riddick: "would you die for them! So, one can also say that Riddick got Fry killed, for showing compassion to a notorious killer, thus the old Riddick was killed.

Jack: "what do we say if we run into a merc ship? Member since May Other interpretations are absurd given the unambiguous final scenes. Riddick has evolved. It's a fable about compassion. Member since September By the look on their faces after she gets hurt, I would say he did it. It would be logical to do in order to save himself. They were surrounded by the creatures by the sound of it. There was no solution other than someone dying.

Riddick is a survivor, a predator. In Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, he says he admires creatures that kill without compassion or remorse, in order to feed themselves, in order to survive. You just need to hear the first few sentences in the movie to know what kind of person Riddick is.

This is Riddick's strength as a movie character. Without his lack of conscience, he is nothing. He's just another "badass" action hero. Saving people, hunting things. The family business. To me this scene doesn't take that much examining. All you need to notice is that as Fry was being dragged away by the creature Riddick tried to cling on to her.

Of all the arguments, this is the best evidence put forth to finally resolve this debate. Why would Riddick try to hold on to her if he killed her to save himself? Now the next question is, did Fry actually die? We didn't see her die. I'm thinking she somehow got free from the raptor's grasp and is hiding in some bunk, waiting for the sun to rise.

The creature killed her. There is nothing to analyze. It stabbed her and flew away with her. Her look of surprise was because it finally seemed like they were all going to be safe and then she got owned.

Riddick was pissed she was killed. I like this movie a lot but its not complicated. What you see is what you get. Member since December He didn't kill her. It was meant for you to think that, and then almost immediately you realise, no, it was the creature. Films do that. End of story. It's left like that for a reason. It's called ambiguity. Watch American Psycho and see if that's all clear cut.

I think that those of you so opposed to the idea of Riddick stabbing fry are those who want him to be the classic Hollywood salvation story, happy ending and all that. The fact is, the director himself left it open to discussion otherwise it would have been clearer.
